Pletholophus guangzhouensis – Rare Elliptical Freshwater Mussel from Guangzhou, China

This specimen was collected from its type locality, Guangzhou. The shell is elliptical in outline, moderately inflated, and exhibits pronounced growth lines. It closely resembles members of the genus Anodonta in general morphology, but can be distinguished by the presence of greatly reduced dentition and a consistently more robust shell. Its rarity and unique characteristics make it a significant species for both collectors and malacological research.
